VHSF hosted our 9/11memorial service this morning remembering those who gave their lives on 9/11 and honoring those who stand watch and protect us every day either overseas or here on our shores. We thanked Jeff Bagwell of Rural Metro with our Eagle Award. Our Eagle Award is given to a person or organization that goes above and beyond to help the veteran’s community. We are very pleased to give this award to Rural Metro. Also we honored Sgt Rush. A 5 tour Marine Corps War Dog who served 4 tours in Afghanistan and 1 tour in Iraq. We also thanked his last handler Cpl Chad Woods who shared that under Sgt Rush no one died from IED. WE are pleased to announce that Sgt Rush and Cpl Wood will be the Grand Marshalls in our upcoming War Dog Memorial March. We also would like to thank Rep. Tim Burchett for stopping by and giving his respects to first responders and all of the Veterans who were attendance. Following the ceremony many attendees participated in our Day of Service, which involved cleaning up the park with assistance from Keep Knoxville Beautiful. Hedges were pruned, weeds were pulled and all trash was gathered and properly disposed of leaving our park clean!
