After a year of planning and discussions for improving Sharps Ridge Memorial Park and transforming into a true Veterans Park, our small group of concerned citizens, led by the Women Veterans of America and their Commander, Jessica King, voted on February 25, 2016 to form a new non-profit organization. This act will aid to fulfill a request from the City of Knoxville that any improvements made will be maintained in perpetuity by a community organization, allow for taking on new projects and permit tax-deductible fund-raising. The Women Veterans of America has strict membership rules that will prohibit many of our group from joining and prevent the necessary organizational growth needed to accomplish our main goals. On March 31, 2016 a small group of our members formed a Board of Directors and approved the by-laws and the charter filings for a 501c3 charitable non-profit organization. The Veterans Heritage Site Foundation subsequently filed its corporate charters with the State of Tennessee and the IRS on April 2nd.
