We want to thank everyone who came to our First Annual War Dog Memorial March. We had a great time and learned a great deal about Military Service Dogs and the role they play in our military. Thank you to all of our participants and volunteers. We are extremely grateful to our wonderful and generous sponsors PetSafe, Powell Animal Hospital, WIMZ /B97.5 Radio, Sweet P’s BBQ, Smoothie King and Pellissippi State Community College. Thanks to Young Williams for partnering with us and we would like to extend special thanks to our celebrity dog walkers, Mayor Madeline Rogero, PSTCC President Dr Anthony Wise and Indya Kincannon the VHSF Women’s Winner of our 2019 5K Ridge Run.  We were very pleased that Mayor Glenn Jacobs was also able to stop by after a very hectic travel week!

Participants of the event were educated along the walking trail with information about Military Service Dogs and how they have become official US Military Veterans. There were several retired War Dogs present at the event including Sgt Rush, who served as our Grand Marshall along with his handler US Marine Corporal Chad Wood. Sgt Rush served 5 tours in the middle east and saved many lives. Other Military Service Dogs present were Alex, Babe, and Rocky who traveled several hours to be a part of this event. We would also like to thank the Knox County Sheriff’s department for bringing two of their K-9 officers as well. Everyone enjoyed seeing them in action!

This event raised funds for the future dog park and war dog memorial at Sharp’s Ridge Veterans Memorial Park. We had information about Military War Dogs who are now veterans. We need to thank these Veterans for their service as they save lives almost every day. Again thanks to all for making this such a great event for and we hope to see you next year! Mark your calendars now for the 2nd Annual War Dog Memorial March on November 8, 2020!
