Today Veterans Heritage Site Foundation hosted the Honoring Our GSMNP Veterans Day. We remembered 10 Veterans of the War of 1812. We also celebrated the 250th Birthday of the Army and Flag Day.

We appreciate Lt Gov Randy McNally for coming to read the State Senate Proclamations sponsored by State Senator Becky Duncan Massey. Thanks to Boni Whitt, Jane Chambers, Roxanne Bowen, Eve Davenport Holder, Dr Warren Dockter, Dr Michael Woods, and Lisa McInnis of the National Park Service. Each brought so much to the program.
Thanks to Kelly Ann Shipe for her great performance on the bagpipes. Also we were privileged to have for their first public performance “the Military Voices of East Tennessee”. Their knew veterans and military choir was awesome. Thanks to Jason Hardy for pulling this group together. I am sure we will hear them many times in the future.
Thanks to the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard for they performance today in presenting the Flags, performing the 13 Fold Presentation and Gun Volley and taps. Thanks for such a professional group of volunteers and all you do throughout the year.

We pinned nine Vietnam Veterans who had both received their 50th Anniversary Welcome Home Vietnam Commemorative Pin and then Marsha Reep and the North Knoxville Quilts of Valor Chapter presented Quilts to seven Army Veterans.
It was great to Remember those who fought in the War of 1812. Thank you Amy Mays Emert for writing their story for our use. Please say their names so they are not forgotten:
